Lighting Workshop
Duration: 6hrs
2 Days ( Daily 3hrs)
Most people rent lights for their shoots, but which lights should you rent? Do you know how to get the correct exposure? Your f-stops from your greyscale? You Kelvins from your Gammas? Your Gobos from your HMI’s? Your Dedo’s from your ND? Learn the meaning behind the lingo of a pro-lighting person and get your hands dirty setting them up!
This Lighting Workshop will introduce participants the principles of lighting using different professional lights, giving them a better understanding and confidence to deal with diverse lighting situations
Course registration and introduction.
a)-The need for lighting will be discussed and the differences between lighting and illumination.
b)- Types of lighting, gels and other accessories.
c)- How do we know when a picture is exposed correctly? How does exposure affect depth of field?
d)- F stops. What do the numbers mean?
e)- We view our pictures on monitors. How the settings on the monitor will affect our picture judgment.
f)- Understanding the grey scale.
g)- What lighting level should we start with?
h)- What is gamma and how does it change the look of the pictures?
i)- By using the lights you will be shown simple 3 point lighting . You will have the opportunity to rig lights yourselves.
j)- Hard Sources and Soft Sources of light – What are the differences and how do we use them? JHow to change a hard source into a soft source.
k)- Colour Temperature. Understanding Kelvin. The difference between Tungsten, Fluorescent and LED lighting. You will be able to rig different lights.
l)- Using colour. What are the problems of using gels? You will have the opportunity to try out different colours and to see how they look on screen.
m)- Background lighting. The importance of good background lighting
n)- Light Control. How do we control the lighting level?
o)- Inverse Square law.
What you can learn.
- Gain access to industry standard lighting tools such as filters and gels
- Practice a variety of exterior and interior lighting situations
- Review color theory as it applies to lighting sessions
- Solve problems often encountered with lighting on film and television sets
